Vision Statement

Hearts for Children Foundation, Inc. seeks to be a leader dedicated to improving critical aspects of basic human existence to improve the local communities in which we reside. We believe that by investing in the future of our children, and their families, our communities will become stronger, more vibrant and healthier places to live.

Mission Statement

Empowering children, their families and our communities to improve the quality of life by increasing educational opportunities and resources, enhancing access to adequate food and shelter, increasing access to health and wellness resources primarily in Wake County and the surrounding jurisdictions of North Carolina.

Heather Loftin Holding

Born in Catawba County, NC
Spent most of childhood in East Tennessee until moving to Wake Forest in 1986.

Mike A. Crowley

Mike Crowley was born in Delray Beach, Florida and grew up in central Maine. He earned a BS degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Maine in 1987 and graduated with an MBA from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College in 1991. Mike also earned an Associates Degree in Surveying Technology from Wake Tech Community College in the mid-1990s/

Mike is the owner of several engineering consulting firms in the Raleigh area, most recently caaENGINEERS, Inc., and Crowley Professional Engineers, Inc.  Through these businesses, he is actively engaged in the fields of water and sewer system design, residential and commercial subdivision design, and utility scale solar development.

Mike has a passion for – and is actively engaged in – mission work in India, Haiti, Sudan, Cuba and has continuing relationships and projects in each of these areas.

Mike enjoys spending time with family members and loved ones while participating in worship, skydiving, flying and scuba diving.

 

C R Carder IV

Mr. Carder is a native of West Virginia and graduated from WVU, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity, with a BSBA degree in Finance and Banking. He moved to the Maryland Suburbs in 1973 where he was employed in the commercial banking industry throughout his career. During this time, his responsibilities included branch management, consumer and commercial lending, business development, loan review, compliance and CRA (community reinvestment act), facilities management, risk management and Bank Secrecy Act / Anti-Money Laundering investigations and suspicious activity reporting to the federal government.

During this time, Mr. Carder was active in many community charitable events and organizations. His original community service career started with the Rockville, MD Jaycees organization. He was a member of the Upper Montgomery County YMCA’s Partner with Youth fundraising group, served in a variety of officer positions – including twice as president – of the Housing & Community Initiatives organization dealing with affordable housing for first-time homebuyers in Montgomery County, Maryland, one of the organizing member of the Montgomery County Bankers’ Small Business Loan Fund, many officer positions with, as well as president of, the Rotary Club of Montgomery Village (Gaithersburg, MD), a member of the Hospice Caring Board of Trustees, Board Member of the Florence Crittenton Home in Silver Spring, MD, and served a term as a Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Mr. Carder moved to Wake Forest in 2017 and joined the Wakefield Rotary Club in 2018 where he currently holds the position of Community / Project Service Lane Chairperson. He also volunteers with the Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry and is a member of the Wake Forest Baptist Church.

Mr. Carder presently serves as one of the three co-founders, directors and managers of the Hearts 4 Children Foundation LLC organization. 

Board of Directors

Chell Smith

Chell is an education leader with 25 years of instructional and administrative experience and currently serves as Principal at Wake Forest Elementary. She has a proven record of accomplishment for exceeding growth expectations measured by state assessments and has won various awards for academic achievement and safe schools initiatives. Chell is recognized as a thought leader for her ability to close achievement gaps throughout disparate populations. In addition to academic achievement, Chell leads initiatives designed to enhance the social engagement and emotional safety of students, their families, faculty, and staff. She facilitates activities for educators and parents designed to increase their social and emotional learning; examine bias and racism, build growth mind-sets, and increase achievement. In addition to this work, Chell develops curriculum and provides guidance for educators and parents to navigate the Special Education process, from referral to individual education planning. 

Chell holds a Master of Education in Administration, Planning and Social Policy from Harvard University Graduate School of Education (Cambridge, MA) and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from North Carolina Central University (Durham, NC).
